Well I actually made this guy up while waiting for my food at Cafe Roma restaurant in Metairie, LA and I'm really not sure what I was thinking about when I decided to make him green. He probably would have worked better in red but maybe he changes to red later.

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 27 Cherufe

From deep within' the volcanoes of Chile comes the Cherufe, a humanoid creatures made of rock and magma that is said to be the cause of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes throughout the region. The Cherufe have a fondness of human flesh and many sacrifices were made to keep the beast's at bay and stop it from causing mass destruction. There is another creature that uses this name a humanoid dragon creature that has been featured on a Cartoon Network cartoon series called The Secret Saturdays.

This drawing was done  in an 5.5" x 8.5" Strathmore (400 Series) 60 lb. paper sketchbook with Sharpie Marker and and Copic Markers with touch up of the black colors in Adobe Photoshop.

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 23 Phoenix

The Phoenix . . .  being that I'm not feeling too great tonight I'm just going to quote Wikipedia on this one. "It is described as a bird with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet (or purple, blue, and green according to some legends). It has a 500 to 1000 year life-cycle, near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self. In some stories, the new phoenix embalms the ashes of its old self in an egg made of myrrh and deposits it in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis (literally "sun-city" in Greek). It is said that the bird's cry is that of a beautiful song. The Phoenix's ability to be reborn from its own ashes implies that it is immortal, though in some stories the new Phoenix is merely the offspring of the older one. 31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 11 - Spring Heeled Jack

Spring Heeled Jack before this 31 Days of Monsters in 31 Days began to me was an descent SKA band that flew under the radar but now he's turned out to be an interesting character. Spring Heeled Jack named because of his quick and frightening jumping ability was first reported in London, England in 1837. His origin and appearance are often disputed from being a normal looking man to a frightening devil featured figure. Some say he had a black cloak others mentioned some sort of helmet often with pointed ears and had eyes that were like fireballs. The most common report of Spring Heel Jack was his metallic clawed hands but the most bizarre report is that he could breath a blue and white flame. Spring Heeled Jack was a terror throughout England attacking his victims with his clawed hands.


In my drawing I decided that Spring Heeled Jack needed to be a little bit of everything he was reported to be but of course I didn't draw him jumping around I thought a pre-pounce pose was best to get in all of his features. I also never found any clear term of reported skin color so since he was said to be devil-like I went with red skin.

The colors are Copic Markers.
