31 Monsters in 31 Days: Monster 12 - The Jagernaug

The Jagernaug - Copyright ©2013 Kevin P. Johnson

The Jagernaug an original creature is a giant beast that lurks in the ocean near Japan. Much like Godzilla this creature has destroyed Japan numerous times but he's really just a misunderstood monster that just wants to play.

This drawing was done in an 5.5" x 8.5" Strathmore (400 Series) 60 lb. paper sketchbook with Sharpie Marker and Copic Markers.

Thanks for looking,

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 22 Ndendeki (Giant Turtle)

Ndendeki - Copyright ©  2012 Kevin P. Johnson
OK so the Ndendeki  is a Giant Turtle . . . and that's all I know about it. I couldn't really find out anything about this guy except it's a giant turtle at least 20 feet tall (mine is bigger than that) and that it has a name that I find cool and interesting and I think that their is also an Asian techno band called the same thing which makes it less cool . . . because of the techno not the Asian.

This drawing was done  in an 5.5" x 8.5" Strathmore (400 Series) 60 lb. paper sketchbook with Sharpie Marker and Copic Markers.
Turtle,

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 20 Lusca (Giant Octopus)

Lusca - Copyright © 2012 Kevin P. Johnson
The Lusca is believed to be a giant octopus living in the waters of the Caribbean that is said to grow from 75 to 200 feet long and attacks ships and submarines. The giant octopus has never been found at these sizes and is probably just a rumor spread by fisherman. Now after I did this drawing I came across a different version of the Lusca that I wish I had drawn that being a giant half shark half octopus creature found in the Bahamas. The tale of that version of the Lusca can be read about at the American Monsters website.

This drawing was done  in an 5.5" x 8.5" Strathmore (400 Series) 60 lb. paper sketchbook with Sharpie Marker and then colored later in Adobe Photoshop. I added a bit of texture to it to see how I liked that effect and it worked a bit like I wanted.

Eight is enough,

Sea Creature

Well this is a weird one right? This drawing happened by accident really it was supposed to be something else and it wasn't working out and I decided not to waste the paper and just make something out of it. Well what I made is this Sea Creature. It's got one giant eye and two tentacles like every good sea creature should . . . that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Anyway this is just a little doodle of a monster that I did.

Horned Sea Slug

The Horned Sea Slug . . . yeah I don't know either I was at the New Orleans Drink and Draw Society monthly meet up and I just came up with this. The colors didn't scan very well I used Copic Markers and Prismacolor Markers and those pinks scanned really hot I tried to adjust it in Adobe Photoshop but it really didn't help much. Anyway this is just another creature from the bottom of the ocean floor you might want to stay away from.

Thanks for checking out the drawings,

Underwater Creature Sketch (Unfinished)

Underwater Creature Copyright © 2012 Kevin P. Johnson
Hey there gang I've been trying to get back to this blog for a while and I have a few monster drawing around that I've worked on in various stages of completion. This one is just a sketch of an undersea scene that I'm hoping to finish and color in the near future. As far as what the creature is I'm not sure it kind of has a horse face but not quite a seahorse so I don't know what he's really supposed to be. I do think that this sketch is a good start on whatever he's going to be.
