31 Monsters in 31 Days (2014 Edition): Monster 18 - Honey Island Swamp Monster

Honey Island Swamp Monster - Copyright ©2014 Kevin P. Johnson
Another regular in the 31 Monsters in 31 Days project the Honey Island Swamp Monster. I decided to base him on last years version but make him a older and fatter. I like the version from 2013 better but this one is still fun and I can imagine him as a cartoon running around the Honey Island Swamp in Slidell, LA saving us all from swamp villains . . . swamp villains I said!

 Thanks for looking,

31 Monsters in 31 Days (2014 Edition): Monster 6 - The Fouke Monster (The Legend of Boggy Creek)

Fouke Monster - Copyright ©2014 Kevin P. Johnson
The Fouke Monster is a southern version of the sasquatch or Big Foot that was seen in the early 1970's near Fouke, Arkansas. I remember this guy from the movie The Legend of Boggy Creek and it's many sequels and he is pretty much the same as the other hairy monsters that are found in wooded areas across the United States. The Fouke Monster is known for taking livestock and dogs and has been known to attack humans on several occasions.

I read that he had big red eyes and so I figured that they should be big and red and silly and well that's what we have here.

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Monster 30 - Honey Island Swamp Monster

Honey Island Swamp Monster - Copyright ©2013 Kevin P. Johnson
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh our old friend the Honey Island Swamp Monster. This is a more cartoony version and by far the best I have done of the Honey Island Swamp Monster. He is the only monster to make the 31 Monsters in 31 Days all three years . . . so far, he's a Louisiana local boy could did you expect he wouldn't be here?

This drawing was done in an 5.5" x 8.5" Strathmore (400 Series) 60 lb. paper sketchbook with Sharpie Marker and Copic Markers.

A drawing of a bunch of monsters. It really didn't come out the way I had hoped but it's something right.

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 26 Am Fear Liath Mòr (The Big Grey Man of Ben MacDhui)

Am Fear Liath Mòr (The Big Grey Man of Ben MacDhui) - Copyright © 2012 Kevin P. Johnson

Well friends this guy got thrown in at the last minute. I was supposed to be drawing a monster called the "Brag" but it turns out that is almost exactly the same thing as the Kelpie I did a few weeks back and I didn't want to do another water horse. So who is this guy? The Am Fear Liath Mòr (The Big Grey Man of Ben MacDhui) is a creature or ghost like being that haunts the summit and passes of Scotland's Cairngorms of Ben Macdui. The creature is said to be an extremely tall being covered with short hair but also has been described as an unseen ghostly presence that haunts mountain climbers making them feel uneasy as they feel that they are being followed by some strange creature.

This drawing was done  in an 5.5" x 8.5" Strathmore (400 Series) 60 lb. paper sketchbook with Sharpie Marker and colored in Adobe Photoshop.

Ghost or Big Foot who knows?

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 21 The MO-MO (Missouri Monster)

The Mo-Mo is Missouri's version of the Big Foot. Mo-Mo is short for Missouri Monster a 7 foot tall creature with long black hair that covers it's face and pumpkin shaped head. The creature is said to have a terrible stench and is reported to eat dogs. You can read about this guy on the American Hauntings website.

I did three versions of this guy because I couldn't really decide how he was supposed to look. I just figured he was a mass of hair and had glowing eyes because if he had a pumpkin head it only made sense to have glowing eyes right?  These drawings were done  in an 5.5" x 8.5" Strathmore (400 Series) 60 lb. paper sketchbook with Sharpie Marker and then colored later in Adobe Photoshop.

So much MO,
Kevin P. Johnson

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 6 Skunk Ape

Skunk Ape - Copyright © 2012 Kevin P. Johnson

The Skunk Ape is a nasty stinky creature found in the southern United States mostly in Florida. It is a Big Foot type creature that gets its name from its horrible smell and ape-like appearance. I'd never heard of this one before but he has probably got my favorite name of any of the creatures I've looked up so far. I will probably do another drawing of him as a full body when I'm over this sickness I've had all week.

In my drawing I've chosen to give him the white stripe like a skunk would have because that just seemed like the right thing for a guy called the Skunk Ape.

This drawing is done with Copic Markers and Sharpie with Adobe Photoshop after on 8.5" x 11" Bristol Board

More information and photos of the Skunk Ape  I also found these two humorous videos below on a sighting of the Skunk Ape. The second video's quality is pretty bad but that makes sense being that it seems all encounters with these types of creatures never have good quality video or photography.

Watch out for the stinky Skunk Ape,
Kevin P. Johnson
