I've been wanting to draw a ghost since I started the 2013 version of 31 Monsters in 31 Days and just never got around to doing it until today. I think he came out pretty good for a simple little drawing of a ghost. This reminds me that I need to get back to making comic books and draw the Little Ghostly Ted comic I've sat on for the last couple years.

Crom Nom Invader 7 is pretty much the worst of the Invaders . . . and we all know how bad Invader Zim was at invading. This guy doesn't even know how to land or crash his space ship anywhere so he has been floating around space for many years just hoping to invade someone. (yeah he's an original)

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Monster 14, 15, 16, 17, & 18 - The Monster Fight

This is a monster catch up Monster Fight (I was supposed to have six monsters in there but it was getting late so I went with five). These are just five made up monsters with no real names. I wish I had made the skull guy doing something more action oriented but the floating yellow blob is pretty fun with his one "POWER HAND".

I'll only be one monster behind now and I hope to get him done tomorrow along with number twenty as well.

Well this was intended to be the Headless Horseman at first and it wasn't working at all so I decided to call him Mr. Pumpkin Head . . . he's pretty much the same as the Headless Horseman except that he wears a turtleneck sweater.

The Jagernaug an original creature is a giant beast that lurks in the ocean near Japan. Much like Godzilla this creature has destroyed Japan numerous times but he's really just a misunderstood monster that just wants to play.

The It From Planet X this is another original monster. The idea is that he's one of those crazy aliens from the old Science Fiction movies from the 1950's who is happened upon by some astronauts and then decides that he must destroy them and the planet they came from.

I really like this guy and I think I can use him in a comic book or something.

Well all the rage in Louisiana these days is the super rare (although seems to be found everywhere) Brain Eating Amoeba. These guys are real . . . and really dangerous if you get one in your nose. The brain-eating amoeba's are a dangerous thing and if you hear of them in your area make sure you take proper precautions in dealing with them. This drawing is just having a little fun with a current topic and making it into a zombie.

So do you remember that old song from 1958 The Purple People Eater by Sheb Wooley? Well I thought that I needed something new for this years crop of monsters and this one is fun. I wanted to add wings to him but I imagined them being really tiny on his back and as I said before I have been stuck on portraits for these (I think it's the paper size I'm using making me feel like I need to do them like this). Anyway I always loved the song and I thank Sheb Wooley for the inspiration.

The Boogeyman . . . the shadowy creature that hunts children from under their beds or from inside the closet where it is darkest and most scary for a young child trying to get through the night. The Boogeyman is absolute horror but several known weapons have been used against him with great success . . . flashlights, nightlights and the sleeping in the bed with your parents almost always works against the Boogeyman.

Well this one didn't come out the way I wanted and as I am already behind on this project there is no time to redraw him.

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Monster 1 - East Peoria Corn Worm

East Peoria Corn Worm - Copyright

OK so we're a bit late on the start of this project being that I was on a business trip to East Peoria, Illinois but I did get the first monster drawn while I was there. This guy is a made up creature that I thought of while in my hotel room so I decided to name him after the area. The East Peoria Corn Worm is a fierce and hungry creature that is know to appear in corn fields before the seeds are planted for the new crops to be grown. It is said that the worm will eat a farmer or a cow whole and slowly digest it's prey over the next year when it is time to feed again.

I should catch up on the drawings by the weekend.

Well on this one I really did not know who the character was. I held a contest on my Facebook page offering a free drawing and one of the winners suggested Slender Man. I didn't really do any research on him besides looking up drawings of him. I plan on finding out more about him because I really do like his look and may draw him again.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! This is our old friend Halloween Man who first appeared here last Halloween. If you'll remember he's the guy that you run into when you are out Trick or Treating that looks like he is part of a Halloween yard display but then jumps out and scares you. The White Lady is a ghost of a woman who died in some sort of tragic death often involving her husband or fiancé. The White Lady has been reported all over the world and she is often seen as a precursor of death to those who witness her. Bloody Bones is one of those creatures that parents tell children to keep them from being bad. He is said to live near a pond or in a dark cupboard under the stairs. It is said that if you peeked into the cupboard you would see him sitting on a large pile of bloody bones that he had collected from children who had lied or said bad words. Bloody Bones has blood running down his face and appears as a horrible monster. He has other names as well Rawhead, Tommy Rawhead or Hobgoblin.

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 28 Scorpion Man

The Scorpion Man is half man, half scorpion and all awesome . . . well maybe. I actually don't know much about these guys except that they serve as guards outside of the gates that protect Shamash the sun god. It seems to me that there is potential to use these monsters in more movies and pop culture.

When I was doing this drawing I honestly was hating it and was going to start over but I just started drawing in stuff with the Sharpie marker (I usually draw with pencil first) and then I just went fast and loose with the Copic Markers and it turned out as something I like a lot. I guess seeing a project through to the end is always a good idea.

From deep within' the volcanoes of Chile comes the Cherufe, a humanoid creatures made of rock and magma that is said to be the cause of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes throughout the region. The Cherufe have a fondness of human flesh and many sacrifices were made to keep the beast's at bay and stop it from causing mass destruction. There is another creature that uses this name a humanoid dragon creature that has been featured on a Cartoon Network cartoon series called The Secret Saturdays.

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 26 Am Fear Liath Mòr (The Big Grey Man of Ben MacDhui)

Well friends this guy got thrown in at the last minute. I was supposed to be drawing a monster called the "Brag" but it turns out that is almost exactly the same thing as the Kelpie I did a few weeks back and I didn't want to do another water horse. So who is this guy? The Am Fear Liath Mòr (The Big Grey Man of Ben MacDhui) is a creature or ghost like being that haunts the summit and passes of Scotland's Cairngorms of Ben Macdui. The creature is said to be an extremely tall being covered with short hair but also has been described as an unseen ghostly presence that haunts mountain climbers making them feel uneasy as they feel that they are being followed by some strange creature.

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 25 Paasselkä Devils

I must admit that this is the worst monster I could have ever picked. When I originally looked it up I must have read a description of something else but wrote this on my list. Paasselkä Devils are floating balls of light that are found over a Lake Paasselkä, Finland and they move at various speeds. Sometimes they appear alone and other time in groups of several balls. People have reported that it sometimes acts as if it is consciousness. In my drawing I had no idea what to do so I figured I'd draw some floating stuff and then a larger shape that was like a silhouette of a person that I figured would be the group consciousness. I went in and added photoshop effects and tried to make it seem as if all of this stuff was trying to join together . . . did it work?

31 Monsters in 31 Days: Day 24 Flatwoods Monster

So the Flatwoods Monster seems to have a lot of different interpretations. It is reported to be some sort of alien sighted in Flatwoods, West Virginia. I've seen a lot of different drawings of this guy as well as toys and other merchandise and they all seem to be a little different from each other with certain likenesses. The creature is said to have a read glowing head and a green pleated skirt. It also appears to float and have clawed hands and I've seen a few drawings that have it shooting lasers out of its eyes and I decided to use that. There is even a book written about this guy: The Braxton County Monster REVISED EDITION The Cover-up of the Flatwoods Monster Revealed.
